Treatment programs for alcohol and drug addiction can be very expensive as initially there can be a need for hospitalization and detoxification.  This can run any where from $30,000.00 to more than $50,000.00 for a stay in a medically run treatment program.  An alternative to this expensive cost is to find an affordable rehab that meets all of the needs of the addict or alcoholic.  It is very important for that the person who is going to detox off of drugs or alcohol be treated by medical staff to make sure that they are safe as people can die in the detoxification process.  But after the initial danger is over there is a need for longer term care so the question is how do you make rehab affordable?

One way to plan for an affordable rehab is to use the minimal amount of time in a medically supervised detoxification facility and then enter into a sober living house for several months.  You can take the same amount of money that you would spend on a 28 day program and exchange it for a few days in the medical detox plus the longer stay at a sober living house.

There is a lot of research that supports long term care for the addict.  Many addicts have entered into 28 day programs only to relapse shortly thereafter.  Drug treatment can be a costly undertaking and deplete your finances quickly if you do not make careful choices and make plans for longer term affordable rehab.

A long term sober living house can be a great investment towards the successful recovery of an addict's life.  This is a setting where addicts trying to achieve sobriety live with other addicts and
people who have been sober for long periods of time.  The philosophy is what has made AA such a success is the fact that one addict helping another addict one day at a time can work.  Treatment is not a quick fix but rather a change in the addict's lifestyle and habits for their lifetime.  The need for affordable rehab for a long period of time can be helpful in that they have to follow a schedule of recovery activities that include AA or NA 12 step meetings.  And in following such a schedule for a long period of time the addict can break their old habit pattern and develop new ones while in a sober living environment.
